Dermaplaning

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure that involves using a specialized scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) from the face. It is often combined with other skincare treatments, such as chemical peels or facials, to enhance their effectiveness.

How does it work?

Dermaplaning is typically performed by a licensed master aesthetician and is considered a safe and non-invasive treatment.

What to expect during your treatment?

We’ll begin your treatment by cleansing your face. Holding your skin taut as we work, we’ll then make quick strokes across the surface of your skin while holding the scalpel at a 45-degree angle.

What to expect after your treatment?

Recovery is different for everyone in the weeks and months after dermaplaning. For most people after a few hours the redness and swelling should subside. Don’t shave the treated area.

What are the benefits of this treatment?

Dermaplaning helps to exfoliate the skin, leaving it smoother and brighter. It can also help to improve the appearance of fine lines and dullness, skin texture, and uneven skin tone.

FAQ’s

Does it hurt?

One of the most common myths of dermaplaning is that it’s painful. The reality is that since dermaplaning involves light feathery strokes, you’ll find it to be pleasant and pain-free. Most patients report that it is far more comfortable than popular treatments like waxing, lasering, or threading.

What are the side effects?

There are some possible side effects of dermaplaning but it doesn’t happen to everyone: redness and irritation, increased sensitivity to strong skin care products and sun sensitivity. Keep the skin clean afterwards, use gentle moisturizers and wear your sunblock.

How many treatments will you need?

Typically a series of treatments is done once a month.

How to prepare for the treatment?

Hydrate before your appointment. Do not use any skin care products with retinol and avoid exfoliating before you come to your appointment. Avoid the sun and use your sunscreen. Keep away from abrasive cleansers and do not steam. Add a skin care product with hyaluronic acid for superior results.
