What is laser acne treatment?

Laser acne treatment involves the application of light from a medical-grade laser to areas of skin with acne to reduce the appearance of blemishes. There are different types of lasers available to help with specific skin complaints, ranging from pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads to acne cysts and nodules.

We use the Syneron Candela® 1064 nm YAG Laser to perform gentle, customized treatments based on the condition of your skin. Some lasers target the sebaceous glands that lead to excess oil production while others target P. acnes bacteria that live on the skin and cause acne flare-ups.

What is a Jessner’s peel?

The Jessner’s peel has been in use for more than 100 years and is a well-utilized treatment for acne. It can also help with uneven skin tone, acne scars, melasma, and hyperpigmentation. The Jessner’s peel is typically a medium-depth peel but can be modified if a lighter peel is needed.

The peel is a chemical solution made of lactic acid, salicylic acid, and resorcinol in an ethanol solution. These chemicals cause a drying effect on the skin so the top layers of dead skin peel off over the next 3-5 days.

What is a salicylic acid peel?

A salicylic acid peel is similar to the Jessner’s peel but only includes salicylic acid, so it’s gentler and has a mild exfoliating effect. Salicylic acid peels are good for blackheads and whiteheads because the acid unclogs pores.

With a salicylic acid peel, you’ll see clearer, smoother skin after 3-5 days. Many over-the-counter salicylic acid peels are available, but they’re not as strong as a medical-grade peel at Nova Derm Institute.

Salicylic acid peels can also be used for signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles, sun spots, and irregular pigmentation.
